Mac Sync Stuff

Something really cool I just worked out I can do with a Mac.

  • I can use iCal to subscribe to Google Calendar
  • I can use iCal to synchronise with OmniFocus
  • I can sync iCal with my iPod so I have both my to-do lists and agenda on my iPod, which travels everywhere with me on campus

At last! A digital to-do list that I keep with me!

Just in case you hadn’t discovered them already, I thought I would share some of the useful mac related sites which I’ve found useful:

http://www.macosxhints.com - very comprehensive, and often first port of call with problems.
http://www.macworld.com - bit more mainstream than the above, but just as useful.

There’s also SpanningSync which does calendar syncing both ways between iCal and Google Calendar, but is a bit pricey.

I’ve also just found that Gmail does IMAP (at last!!!!!) which makes a great addition to Mail.app

How are you getting on with it?!

Thanks for the links - very handy. “The Mac” hasn’t arrived yet, and as such won’t until 25th December. Don’t worry though, I’ll be posting my thoughts to this site as soon as possible!

Yep, GMail IMAP has indeed been launched. Don’t know how easy it is to use, but it looks pretty well integrated. I know that Mail.app lets you enter your GMail address and password and will set the rest up for you, but does anyone know if this sets it up for IMAP or the old POP3? The IMAP launch was around the same time as Leopard, so it could potentially go either way bearing in mind the dealings Apple have had with Google in the past.

Mail.app seems to work fine with both Gmail offerings, although IMAP retrieval on the Tiger version of Mail.app is unbearably slow at times.

The demos for the Gmail IMAP display iPhone integration so maybe they’re killing two birds with one stone by releasing it in time with Leopard.

WIll be purchasing Leopard as soon as I can get into an Apple-friendly country (Syria not being one of them, although the DVDs are extraordinarily cheap!!)
